It seems that my email inbox gets flooded this time of year with all sorts of unhealthy suggestions for cookies, cakes, chocolate everything…and that’s how we’re supposed to show ourselves and our loved ones true love? By giving them something that will probably make them feel kind of yucky or super high on sugar? Look, I’m never one to tell you not to indulge sometimes, and certainly Valentine’s day can be one of those holidays. But if you’re anything like me, you’re feeling the need to get back on track after a little detouring, and I’m here to help guide you to some better choices.
I’d love to say that I have a list of a bunch of my own personal creations, but to be honest, I don’t. I don’t experiment much with baking or desserts yet, so maybe in the future those kinds of recipes will be headed your way. For now, I’ve assembled some of my favorite treats and recipes that are fun while being healthy. Try them out and let me know what you think!
1. Supercharged Peanut Butter Fudge, from the team at I Quit Sugar
These yummy squares are really filling, thanks to the natural peanut butter, and the gelatin makes it super fun! For Valentine’s Day, you can cut them into little hearts!
2. The Best Vegan Chocolate Mousse, by the team at I Quit Sugar
Can you tell I love the team at I Quit Sugar? Sarah Wilson’s books are great, and I love experimenting with the recipes. I’ll be honest and say that I haven’t gotten around to trying this one yet, but I might have to break down and make it this week. Does it not look amazing? I’ve bookmarked it for months…if you give it a try, then let me know how it is!
3. Raw Date & Hazelnut Brownies, by Deliciously Ella
These brownies without the frosting are amazing, but with this frosting, they’d be straight up decadent. They’re definitely on the sweeter side, but you can cut down the fructose content by swapping out the maple syrup for brown rice syrup if you want. Either way, if you’re going to indulge, these are a great and easy way to do so!
4. Blushing Beauty juice, by Kris Carr
Want to go for the whole pink/red vibe for Valentine’s Day, and help your complexion out in the process? Opt for this juice or, instead of juicing, why not just blend it into a smoothie and keep all the fiber? Garnish it with a cut strawberry on the rim of the glass and surprise your sweetie and/or kids!
I could go on and on since there are so many great recipes out there, but give one of these a shot and show your love (even if it’s just to yourself!!) with a healthier choice!
xox,
Jen
