The past year and a half has been a tough one on all of us. Most of us have lost people  we cared about, many of us have endured incredible amounts of stress, and still others have gained weight and feel sluggish and uninspired. In Chinese Medicine, starting around September 5th, we enter the season of fall. Like the leaves on the trees, we must learn to release what no longer serves us, so that we can make space for what lies ahead.

This month, I am inviting you to do some introspective journaling to explore ways you can prepare room for the gifts of abundance that await you. Take some time to answer the following questions for yourself:

  1.  What or who in my life is no longer working for me?
  2. Am I willing to let these things go? If so, when? If not now, then when?
  3. What feeling(s) would I have if I let this go? Take a moment to allow yourself to physically and emotionally embody the feeling(s) after writing them down.
  4. What would life be like if I could let this go now?
  5. What would I create space for if I were able to let this go now?

You can choose one thing or person and go through all of the prompts with that in mind, then repeat for additional items or people, or you can choose to write everything out all at once. There is no “right” way to do this exercise. This is your opportunity to be honest with yourself about what is holding you back from being the best version of yourself that you can be.

When we release our burdens, we feel lighter and are able to move more freely in the world. Whether it is a grudge, judgment, loss, perceived mistake, or physical weight that we choose to shift and let go of, we create an openness that allows us to move forward with more self-love and compassion, and we all could use more of that this year.
